Edge Wireless Network
The geographic reach of the actual cellular transmission
antennas operated by Edge Wireless. Not to be
confused with Rate Plan Area.
EDGE
Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution; technology
that delivers broadband-like data speeds to mobile
devices.
GPRS
General Packet Radio Service is a non-voice service that
allows data transmission to send and receive data in
packets with an average speed of 30-40 kbps (kilobytes
per second).
GSM
Global System for Mobile Communications. GSM is used
in over 170 countries by over 85% of the world's cellular
subscribers. GSM is the technology that drives our highquality
voice communications service.
IMEI
International Mobile Equipment Identity: a serial number
which identifies the mobile station internationally; used
to track inventory.
IMSI
International Mobile Subscriber Identity: the Mobile
Station will only operate if a SIM with a valid IMSI is
inserted into the equipment.
IP
Internet Protocol: the method by which data is sent
from one computer/device to another on the internet.
Landline
A regular phone connected by wires to the local telephone
company's switch.
MDN
Mobile Directory Number: the phone number that is
dialed to reach a specific mobile phone.
MobileMediaTM
The Edge Wireless data rate plan that allows you to access
information and services other than voice right from your phone.
With a MobileMedia Rate Plan, you can visit the internet, send
and receive email, send picture and instant messages, download
ringtones and games, play music and more.
Mobile-to-Mobile
Communication between two or more mobile phones.
On select rate plans, Edge subscribers can enjoy all the
convenience of free mobile-to-mobile calling between
Edge Wireless devices in their Rate Plan Area.
Mobile-to-Web / Web-to-Mobile
Communication between a mobile phone and IP
address accessed from a website.
Rate Plan Area
The geographic area in which you may use your
phone without incurring roaming fees.
SIM
Subscriber Identity Module: a smart card that is
inserted into a GSM mobile phone that carries your
phone number and other mobile services.
WAP
Wireless Application Protocol: form of internet
protocol (IP) designed for wireless devices. Check out
